A Punjab family of three, kidnapped in Iran, returned safely to their hometown in Rahon after quick action by the Indian government.
The family — Dharminder Singh, his wife Sandeep Kaur, and their son Mankirat Singh — traveled to Tehran on September 25 and fell victim to a travel scam.
✈️ Fake Travel Agents Lure the Family
Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang said that dishonest travel agents tricked the family with promises of legal settlement in Canada.
The agents sent the family through Dubai to Iran, where kidnappers at Imam Khomeini International Airport held them and demanded ransom money.
“After the family contacted me, I immediately raised the issue with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and the ministry acted to bring them home,” Kang said.
🛡️ Government Acts Quickly to Rescue Family
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) coordinated with Iranian authorities and rescued the family. They returned safely to Punjab on Monday evening.
This case shows how fast government intervention can save citizens from dangerous international scams.
⚠️ Growing Threat of Travel Scams
Experts warn that fraudulent travel agencies often lure people with false immigration promises. Many victims end up in dangerous situations abroad.
Authorities advise citizens to verify travel agents and avoid shortcut immigration deals that seem too good to be true.
