Chandigarh Police has announced significant enhancements in welfare measures for its staff and their families, providing stronger financial and social support.
Increased Death Compensation
The natural death compensation for police personnel has been raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹3 lakh, while accidental death benefits have also been increased. Off-duty accidental death compensation now stands at ₹5 lakh, and on-duty accidental death compensation has been boosted to ₹10 lakh. Additionally, funeral assistance has risen from ₹20,000 to ₹50,000.
Support for Education and Loans
To encourage higher education, concessional loans up to ₹5 lakh will be available at a low 5% interest rate for police staff and their families. On this occasion, scholarships worth ₹1.85 crore were awarded to 402 children of police personnel. Top-performing students in academics and sports at national and international levels were also felicitated.
Health and Emergency Assistance
Police personnel can avail ₹1 lakh in emergency medical aid, including paediatric care, at the Chandigarh Police Hospital. Those facing prolonged illness can receive ₹20,000 per month as extraordinary leave (EOL) support. In addition, ₹20,000 assistance is provided for the transportation of mortal remains within India.
Resumption of Salary Deductions and Arrears
Monthly salary deductions, which had been suspended since 2022, will now resume with a 3.5% interest rate. Arrears for retired personnel will also be cleared.
Marriage and Disability Support
Marriage loan limits have been increased to ₹4 lakh, while aid for permanent disability has been raised to ₹3 lakh.
Recognition and Rewards
UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria announced the restoration of the 13th salary for police personnel after two years. DGP Sagar Preet Hooda emphasized the vital role of police families, stating:
“Our families are the backbone of every mission, patrol, and presence.”
