Punjab and Haryana Heighten Security for Republic Day Celebrations Amid Rising Threats
Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, Punjab Police has issued a red alert and deployed more than 15,000 personnel across the state to ensure law and order. This security boost comes in response to a series of blasts at police installations, allegedly by pro-Khalistan groups, and the announcement of a tractor march by farmer unions.
Special Operations and Vigilance
Arpit Shukla, Special DGP (Law and Order) for Punjab, confirmed that special operations have been launched across all districts. Senior officers have been assigned to supervise security arrangements, while authorities are conducting extensive checks on gangsters, smugglers, and anti-social elements. Additional police forces have been deployed to monitor inter-district and inter-state borders, ensuring complete vigilance during the Republic Day period.
Venue Change and Heightened Security
Due to concerns raised by pro-Khalistan slogans near Nehru Stadium in Faridkot, the venue for the Republic Day function has been shifted to Patiala. This move was purely for administrative reasons, according to Shukla.
Simultaneously, security measures have been increased in neighboring Haryana and Chandigarh. Police are focused on securing vulnerable locations such as bus stands, railway stations, and government buildings. Bomb squads and dog teams are deployed at key areas to ensure foolproof security.
These proactive measures are in place to ensure safe and peaceful Republic Day celebrations across the region.
