After securing a dominant 44-run victory over New Zealand in their final Group A match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Team India is set to take on Australia in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma acknowledged Australia’s strong history in ICC knockout matches but emphasized that India’s focus remains on their own game plan.
India Focused on Execution, Not External Factors
When asked if facing Australia in the semi-final brings any extra motivation following their 2023 World Cup final defeat, Rohit dismissed any external pressure, stating that the team remains focused on executing their strategies.
“It’s a great opposition to play against. All we need to do is stick to the game plan we’ve followed in our last three matches. We have to approach this game in the same way,” Rohit said.
Understanding the Opposition but Playing to Strengths
While acknowledging Australia’s dominance in high-pressure games, Rohit stressed the importance of India focusing on their strengths.
“We understand how Australia plays, but our priority is what we need to do as a team. Whether it’s as batsmen or bowlers, focusing on our strengths is what matters,” he added.
Anticipating a Tough Battle Against Australia
Rohit also highlighted the challenges of a high-stakes knockout match, recognizing Australia’s ability to fight back in crunch situations.
“Australia has been a great team over the years. We expect them to fight back, and there will be tense moments in the match. But that’s how high-level cricket is played today,” he noted.
India’s Approach for the Semi-Final
With a place in the Champions Trophy final on the line, both teams will be under immense pressure. However, Rohit believes that staying focused and executing their plans effectively will be key to India’s success.
“In a semi-final, pressure is on both teams. But our job is to stay focused, keep executing our plans, and do the right things. If we stay consistent, the results will follow,” Rohit concluded.
As India gears up for the high-stakes clash, fans will be eager to see if Rohit Sharma and his team can overcome the challenge and secure a place in the final.
