Christmas Carol Concert Held at Hanley Town Hall Raises Funds for Charity

Dec 20, 2025

A festive carol concert took place outside Hanley Town Hall, bringing the community together while raising funds for Egret Homes CIC, a non-profit supporting young people toward independent living. The event was attended by local residents, councillors, and MP Gareth Snell, creating a warm holiday atmosphere in the heart of the city.

Hanley Town Hall Illuminated for Festive Celebration

The historic Hanley Town Hall was lit up in blue and green lights, creating a picturesque backdrop for the concert. A stage and gazebo were set up outside, where attendees joined in singing classic carols, including:

  • Silent Night

  • See Him Lying on a Bed of Straw

  • O Come All Ye Faithful

The event was part of the town’s centenary celebrations and marked the first public event since the building’s relaunch.

Community Engagement and Nostalgia

Millie Davis, a local resident, said:
“It’s wonderful to see Stoke-on-Trent hosting an event like this. It feels positive and festive.”

Her mother, Carolyn Davis, reminisced about her wedding at the town hall 25 years ago:
“The building was beautiful, and I look forward to seeing it reopen.”

The concert also offered residents a chance to share their thoughts on the building’s future, strengthening community connections.

Supporting a Worthy Cause

The carol concert helped raise funds for Egret Homes CIC, which provides housing and support for young people transitioning to independent living. Raffle tickets were sold, adding to the charitable efforts.

Future Plans for Hanley Town Hall

Simon Edwards of Heronceau Properties, the building’s new owners, shared plans to transform Hanley Town Hall into a hotel, including:

  • A tea room

  • Spaces for weddings and events

  • Hotel accommodation

He emphasized the importance of community input, saying:
“We want to bring this historic building back to life while respecting the hopes and memories of local people.”

Originally opened in 1869 as the Queen’s Hotel, Hanley Town Hall most recently served as a wedding venue before closing in 2020. The new proposals aim to revive its historical charm while making it a modern community hub.
