Chandigarh Grenade Attack: NIA Arrests Key Accused Linked to BKI Terror Conspiracy
In a major breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another suspect in connection with the grenade attack in Chandigarh’s Sector 10, tightening its grip on a suspected terror module backed by foreign-based BKI (Babbar Khalsa International) terrorists.
Latest Arrest: Gurdaspur Resident Amitoj Singh Detained
The newly arrested individual has been identified as Amitoj Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab. According to the NIA, Amitoj played a significant role in orchestrating the grenade attack, allegedly acting under the direction of BKI operatives stationed abroad.
Crackdown Widens: Karnal Property Raided
Following this development, the NIA also conducted a search operation in Karnal, Haryana, aiming to expose the entire network behind the attack and trace other potential accomplices. The agency’s intensified probe points to a larger conspiracy with cross-border links.
Terror Masterminds Identified
The NIA has previously charged four key figures in this case, including Harwinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda (based in Pakistan) and Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia (based in the US), who have been declared absconding accused. The remaining two individuals are among five already arrested.
Abhijot Singh’s Role in Plot Uncovered
In the prior arrest, the NIA detained Abhijot Singh, already in jail for a separate grenade attack at a police station. Investigations uncovered his direct links to Happy Passia, revealing that he conducted reconnaissance of the Chandigarh target site multiple times during July and August 2024.
He also procured a stolen motorcycle with a fake number plate, which was intended for use during the attack. Moreover, Happy allegedly supplied pistols to Abhijot and another accused, Rohan Masih, and instructed them to carry out the firing.
Failed Execution Attempt
According to the NIA, Abhijot and Rohan made two failed attempts in August 2024 to execute the attack on the Sector 10 house. The investigation remains active as authorities continue tracking the international terror links behind this plot.
