A tragic road accident occurred in Chandigarh’s Sector 46 on Wednesday when a speeding Mahindra Thar hit two sisters returning from college. The accident claimed the life of one sister, Sojef, while her sibling Isha sustained serious injuries.
Sisters Hit While Returning From College
The victims, identified as Sojef and Isha, were residents of Burali area and students at Dev Samaj College for Women. The incident took place when they were standing on the roadside, waiting for an auto-rickshaw, after college hours. A rashly driven Thar lost control and hit them with great impact.
Locals rushed both girls to the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where Sojef was declared dead, while Isha remains under medical care.
Driver Escapes After the Accident
According to eyewitnesses, the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving behind the vehicle. Police officials quickly launched an investigation to trace the absconding driver.
Police Launch CCTV-Based Investigation
The Chandigarh Police have identified the registration number of the vehicle and traced it to an address in Sector 21. However, when officers reached the location, they discovered that the driver no longer lived there.
Authorities are now analyzing CCTV footage from nearby areas to locate the accused driver responsible for the fatal accident.
Public Demands Strict Action
Residents of the area have urged authorities to take strict legal action against reckless drivers and enforce stronger road safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
