Chandigarh Issues Air Raid Siren as Tensions Escalate Between India and Pakistan

May 9, 2025

On Friday, the Chandigarh administration sounded a fresh air raid siren after receiving a warning of a possible attack. Residents were advised to stay indoors and avoid balconies for safety.

An official statement from the administration explained that the air force station had issued an alert about a possible threat. Sirens were activated as a precautionary measure, urging everyone to stay indoors. About an hour later, the alert was lifted, and the sirens were turned off.

Warnings Issued in Neighboring Areas

The Panchkula district administration, which is close to Chandigarh, also sounded a similar siren, advising the public to stay indoors. Mohali district in Punjab, which borders Chandigarh, issued a similar advisory for residents in nearby sectors, urging them to avoid windows and glass panes.

Patiala District on High Alert

The Patiala district administration has also recommended that residents stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Educational institutions have been closed, and people have been advised to stay away from balconies, rooftops, and open spaces. An emergency contact number has been provided in case of any urgent needs.

Heightened Tensions Amid Pakistan-India Conflict

This alert comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Pakistan’s military made multiple attempts to target military installations in several locations, including Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, using drones and missiles. These attempts were thwarted by Indian forces.

Earlier in the week, the Indian military conducted a series of precise missile strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting terror sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. This operation was in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

As tensions continue, authorities urge residents to remain calm, stay informed through official channels, and avoid panic.
