Dense Fog and Smog Blanket Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana, Worsening Air Quality and Health Risks

Nov 13, 2024

On the morning of November 13, 2024, a thick layer of smog engulfed the regions of Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana, severely reducing visibility and driving air quality to “very poor” levels. The dense fog, combined with stubble burning from neighboring fields, has worsened the region’s air pollution crisis, heightening the health risks for residents.

The reduced visibility was particularly concerning for early commuters, including schoolchildren, who braved the cold in winter clothing. Experts predict that the hazy conditions will persist throughout the day, exacerbating the risks for individuals, especially those with respiratory issues.

This environmental situation highlights the urgent need for improved air quality control measures, as smog continues to be a major public health threat in the region.
