Congress Intensifies Campaign for Ludhiana Bypoll
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in charge of Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel, will visit Ludhiana on Sunday to campaign for the party’s Assembly bypoll candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
With the by-election scheduled for June 19, the Congress leadership is making strong efforts to present a united front and boost support for its candidate.
Top Punjab Leaders Join the Campaign
According to sources, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Raja Warring and Congress Legislature Party leader Partap Singh Bajwa will be in Ludhiana on June 15 and 16 to support Baghel’s campaign activities for Ashu.
Senior Leaders Involved Amid Internal Differences
The Congress has also approached senior leader Harish Chaudhary, who previously handled Punjab affairs, to campaign for Ashu. However, Chaudhary stated that he will not visit Punjab due to prior commitments in Madhya Pradesh, where he is currently overseeing party matters.
Internal Tensions Remain in Congress Punjab Unit
Party insiders revealed some coordination gaps during the campaign. Leaders like Warring and Bajwa reportedly were not fully involved in earlier campaign activities. Meanwhile, another group within the party, including Rana Gurjeet Singh, former CM Charanjit Channi, and Pargat Singh, have been actively campaigning for the bypoll.
Congress Focused on Unity Before Key Election
Despite internal differences, the Congress is working to show unity and strength ahead of the crucial Ludhiana by-election, hoping to consolidate its voter base and secure victory.
