Chandigarh Police Arrests Arjun Thakur for Extortion Allegations
Chandigarh Police have arrested Arjun Thakur, a partner of the De’Orra club, on charges of extortion following a complaint filed by his business partner, Nikhil Chaudhary. Thakur allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 monthly from Chaudhary, threatening harm if the payment was not made. The arrest occurred two days after a crude bomb exploded outside a club located near Badshah’s bar-cum-lounge in the city.
Dispute Among Club Partners
Thakur, a 25% stake holder in the De’Orra club, is reportedly in a dispute with other partners. The sale of a 10% share to a new investor, Tekchand Singal, has caused tensions among Thakur, Chaudhary, and other associates. Police suspect that the extortion demand might be connected to this internal dispute.
Criminal Background and Investigation into Blast
Thakur, a resident of Sector 49, has a criminal record and has previously served time in jail. He became notorious in 2018 for his involvement in a shooting incident at a birthday party for Sahdev Salaria, an associate of former Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher. Authorities are also investigating Thakur’s potential links to criminal gangs, including the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The blast outside the De’Orra club, which caused window damage but no injuries, is still under investigation. CCTV footage revealed two suspects throwing a crude bomb, arriving on a motorcycle, and fleeing the scene. A phone call from gangster Kali, linked to the Bishnoi gang, was also uncovered during the investigation, raising further concerns about the involvement of criminal elements.
